Traditional Japanese Festival

This afternoon NHK World TV Channel telecast an interesting documentary on their Matsuri festival. Balancing of long poles is an integral part in this festival as you can see in this video.

Such documentaries remind me of a few games that I used as teaching aids in my physics lessons to students. One such was letting students balance a one metre long wooden ruler horizontally and vertically on their finger. My students in different countries seemed to love the activity. This was part of my attempt to teach 'Equilibrium' in middle school physics.

Divine Discourse

It is highly spiritually enriching viewing Poojya Shree Bhai Shree Ramesh Bhai Oza's 'Shreemad Bhagavath Kathaa' particularly at this time when my mind is troubled (as my beloved brother is unwell and undergoing treatment). 

I am grateful to Shree Hari for having enabled me to view spiritual TV Channels Aashtaa and Sanskar in my hotel room in Bengaluru in 1997, the night before my interview for Principal's post in Poornaprajna High School in Yelahanka, a suburb of Bengaluru. 

I think that owners/organisers of TV Channels such as Aashtha, Sanskrit, Sri Sankara TV, Jagannaath Puri TV etc. are God given gift to humanity.

Olivia Hussey

News that the 73 years old British actress Olivia Hussey succumbed to cancer and died yesterday means a void in the Film Industry. She will be remembered for her role in 'Romeo and Juliet', a 1968 film. May her soul rest in peace.

Dr Manmohan Singh

Yesterday's death of Shree Manmohan Singh is a loss to dedicated, unbiased and hardworking political community as well as to common folk in our country.

He and former Prime Minister Shree P V Narasimha Rao initiated several programmes including Right to Basic Education and Aachaar Card system. They were instrumental in bringing in drastic changes in liberalising Indian economy, the fruits of which are being experienced to day.

He will be remembered by all even minded Indians for his several contributions to our Nation.

May his soul rest in peace.

A few days ago, I bought Kopiko candies online. As claimed by the retailer (BigBasket), these candies do contain the aroma and taste of a good cup of coffee. I eat these whenever I am too tired of making a cup of coffee.

News that Shree Shyam Benegal, the celeberated film maker passed away indicates a void in the Indian Film Industry. He will be remembered for his classic films in the 1970s and 80s.

The Beatles

Day before yesterday was an important day to 'The Beatles' fans all over the world. On this day, former Beatles Sir Paul McCartney and Dingo Starr performed by bringing back some of their songs of the 1960s in a concert enjoyed by packed audience. 

Withering of one flower from the garden of classical music

This morning's news that Shree Zakir Hussein, highly charismatic and legendary musician passed away adds a sad note to the classical music industry. 

Recipient of several national and international awards including Grammy (that he won four times), he was known for his cross cultural music contributions and association with musicians across barriers. George Harrison  of The Beatles was one of them.

George Harrison was well known as a Shree Krishna devotee closely associated with ISKCON Movement. 

People of my generation will particularly miss him. (I am just 4 months younger than him).

Although Zakir is no more, melodious vibrations from his thablaas will keep ringing in the ears of his numerous fans globally.

May his soul rest in peace.

More importantly, today is Friday. Friday is a very auspicious to worship Shree Mahaa Lakshmi and Shree Mahaa Vishnu, with whom She is always present.

Shree Mahaa Vishnu Fest

Today is a very auspicious day in the Hindu Calender. Today is Ekaadashi. Today is Wednesday. Today is the anniversary of the day on which Shree Lord Shree Krishna gave His very revered and sacred Bhagavadh Geetha to Arjuna, nearly 5000 years ago. This day is celebrated as Geetha Jayanthi.

All the above three factors are related to Shree Mahaa Vishnu.

Brian Adams in India

Rock musician Brian Adams is on a concert tour in our country. According to his official website, he will perform at Yelahanka, Bengaluru, on 24th. I wish he had visited the area when I was working in this beautiful suburb of Bangalore in 1997.

I remember one of his songs in reggae style. Let me share the song here.

Memorable movie

Although I had never been a keen movie enthusiast, I do remember old movies which I liked. One of those is 'Choti si bath' in which Amol Palekar acts as hero.

It was pleasure viewing this movie on National DD TV Channel this afternoon. I like the movie for the beautiful hilly terrains (like the ones where I have worked), my favourite model of Premier Padmini car and my favourite game of table tennis, featured in it. More importantly I saw the movie in 1978 when I was much happier than now. I have mentioned the then circumstance in my post dated 24 July 2020.

Bheema Jayanthi

Today is a very important day in the Hindu Calender. This day is the birth anniversary of Bheemaa. 

He was the one who killed the evil Duryodhanaa during the Mahaabharath war.

He was born in Dwaapara Yugaa. In the Trethaa Yuga (that preceded Trethaa yuga), he was Lord Hanumaan, the greatest devotee of Lord Shree Raam. In the present Kali Yugaa, he took birth as Shree Madhwaachaarya.

Shree Mahaa Vishnu residing in the heart of Bheema is offered special worship today.

Swamy Naaraayan Temple

As I am typing this post, I experience divine Joy of viewing the golden jubilee celebration of Swamy Naaraayan Temple, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

According to a spokesperson saint of the temple, although our beloved Prime Minister could not participate in the function, he sent message via video communication. The saint spoke in Hindi as well as in English. Prime Minister's message was telecast in the function.

Coin honoring Paul

The news that The British Mint has released a £5 coin circulated from today, honoring 'Sir Paul McCartney, legendary singer and song writer is a fitting recognition of Paul's contribution to soft rock music. 

His passion for a discrimination free world is very evident from songs such as 'Ebony and Ivory' that he and Stevie Wonder, legendary Afro-American singer, produced and performed.

Although, like most soft rock fans of my age, I liked most of the songs by Paul and The Beatles, a few of them keep ringing in my ears, like this one.

His numerous fans (amongst whom I remain to be one) will be remember him for years to come. Congrats, Paul😀.

Gross misgovernance

Although the weather condition is very good, power supply to our area got cut 5 minutes ago. As I mentioned in my previous posts, this is very frequent and common. 

When power is cut, somehow my Wi-Fi too doesn't work. However, thanks to my internet provider, I resort to mobile data to use the internet.

It seems that the MLA (Member of the Legilative Assembly) who represents our area in the Tamilnadu Govt. is not at all worried about this condition (as he/she may be using inverter in the house). Such rascals should be severely punished. Unfortunately law and order regulations are perfect on paper in our Public Administration Offices but not implemented properly.

This morning I bumped into a very interesting information about how to prepare dosa using a sandwich maker. Let me share the information here. I love vegetarian cheese and tomato sandwiches for which I use my sandwich maker. Hereafter I'll try making my favourite dosas.
