Scrabbles

Scrabble is a popular game and a very effective English Language Teaching aid in school classrooms. This evening there was a very interesting documentary featuring the game's popularity in Thailand on cna TV Channel.

I tried to provide a link to the documentary, but couldn't access it from the TV Channel. However I could access an earlier program from cna TV Channel's website. Let me share this program.

I remember how I used to motivate my teaching staff and students into this interesting game not only in learning English language but also subjects such as science that were taught in English medium across the curriculum. I think that my staff and students liked the game and reaped the benefits.

I have always found scrabbles and crossword puzzles to be very effective teaching/training aids.

Jagannaath Fest

Jagannaatha Puri Temple is one of the most important abodes of Lord Shree Krishna. Today, the temple's priests perform special Poojaas (divine rituals) in addition to daily Poojaas as part of Worship. Let me share a part of today's divine rituals.

Father's day

Today is celeberated as Father's Day. I fondly remember my beloved father. I also remember my beloved mother who stood by him always. They brought us up by making many sacrifices.

Lord Shree Krishna, Father of the Universe

I had the joy of reading a highly spiritual article on Lord Shree Krishna that I read on a web page. Let me share the web page.

Lord Shree Krishna is an incarnation of Shree Mahaa Vishnu. Shree Mahaa Lakshmi is His wife. They are Parents of the Universe.

Activity based Science teaching

For the past few days, there has been some rain here in Chennai. This has paved the way for mosquitoes and small insects to get inside the residences.

Some times, even effective mosquito repellents seem to be ineffective. Hence many people use instance sticks to repel mosquitoes and small insects. I had to use an insence stick as well as shown in the following photo:

As any brilliant science teacher would know, such photoes are of immense use in teaching middle school science concepts. Above photo (or a short video) of the burning insence stick can be used to teach an important school science concept: Hot air rises up. It can also be used to teach concepts such as kinetic theory of matter.

I wish that our teachers use such photoes and videos in their classrooms, if they cannot do live demos for any reason.

India Election 2024

As votes are still being counted, according to media reports, BJP has got the largest score, although not large enough to form a government without coalition support.

I think that it is good that BJP has won the race and that Shree Modi and his team will steer the country for the third consecutive term. I wish that the party gets the majority seats needed to form a government without coalition support.

I wish the BJP leads in Tamilnadu too and governs Tamilnadu after winning the  State Election in 2026. I think that it is high time that DMK and ADMK are replaced by BJP with possible alliance with good parties such as PMK (Paattaali Makkal Katchi).

At the global level, it is a bit uncomfortable that although ANC leads the political race, it has not got the required majority to form a government without coalition support. I remember how well the ANC led the country in late 1980s up until 1992, when I was working in Southern Africa.

I write this post from a development perspective and not political perspective.
